Well-Loved Bear

well-loved teddy bear

I think I’ll call him Edward. A few weeks ago, we were given a bear model to texture. It was my very first model in Substance Painter and I was still trying to get the interface figured out and had quite a bit of trouble just figuring out how to even the very basics. Consequently, he’s a cute, but rather boring bear. You can see him on SketchFab:

Last week we were given the assignment to redo one of models, now that we’re much more comfortable with the program. So I chose to redo my bear, because he needed some more attention. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties I don’t yet know how to fix, I wasn’t able to upload it to SketchFab. So I all I have is the screen shot above. But I think even with that you can tell there’s a huge difference. This bear has been loved, slept with, carried around (particularly by his right arm), gotten dirt, grape jelly, scratches. He’s had an ear torn off and restitched with great love, if not skill. His eyes and nose are scratched up. He’s got patches on the back and one leg that’s patched with an iron-on patch, but the fabric fell off and all that’s left is the interfacing. I made the stitching more irregular, to make it look like it was done by a child. Here’s a screenshot of the back:
