Welcome to the Pub

JRPG-style orthographic map of an inn

I have to say this is one of the best pieces I’ve done this term. And one of the pieces I’ve had the most fun doing. The assignment was to create an orthographic map of a JRPG-style level. As you can see, I did one of a pub. And since it is a pub, it needed a lot of stuff. I didn’t create all of the pixel art items, I just arranged them. They were taken from a combination of free image and paid collections of items.

I did create the floor, wall, and top of wall textures in Photoshop. The floor and top of wall are repeatable tiles created from a piece of scrap wood we have around the house. The walls were created by first creating some light blue and white difference clouds, then running that through a few filters until I got the cool tile effect. I felt like the walls should be a cool color because the overwhelming amount of colors in this map are warm.

I also created the bar in the lower left corner, complete with leather hinges held on with brass studs. The bar was created from the same piece of wood I used elsewhere. I darkened the whole image, the brightened the areas around the candles to create the right feel for a medieval-fantasy pub.
