Little did I know that I’d started a life-long addiction that day. Two weeks after that, I DM’ed a game for the first time. Since then, I’ve GM’ed everything from D&D to World of Darkness to Toon. Basically, if I can get my hands on it, I’ll try to run it.

I’m a web designer and freelance writer by trade. I’ve written articles for Inphobia (originally called White Wolf Magazine), Challenge, and Ars Magica’s supplement Medieval Tapestry.

So who is ‘Jade’?

Jade is actually me, Carroll. It’s a name I used to use many years ago as my online identity. If you’re in a forum or something and see the name ‘jaderpggm’, it’s pretty certain to be me. The name came from a Trinity character who’s name also ended up the basis of my email address at the time – jadepsion (that’s “psion” — as in psionics). My online gaming contacts shortened it to “Jade”, and the name stuck.

But who’s the cat?

My Gravatar is my cat, Rukia. She wandered into my house one day and refused to leave. Eight years later, she’s still here and thinks she’s queen of the roost. I suppose she’s right. She always has something to say about everything thing I’m doing, even if that doing is simply refilling my cup of water. But she follows me around and must be in whatever room I am, usually keeping up a running commentary the whole time. So she’s managed to not only work her way into my home but also into my heart.

I’ve been gaming since August of 1980 when I crashed a D&D game at summer camp.
