Dragons in Guang Keshar Society

July 26, 2010 · Posted in Musings, World Background · Comment

As the direct descendants of Huang Ti and being made in her image, dragons are honored throughout Guang Keshar. They could be considered demi-gods or something akin to patron saints: beings can act as emissaries between mortals and the Jade Wyrm. It’s common to find votive statues of the various dragons, past and present, on family altars, which the family honors and prays to, asking for help in various areas of their lives. For their own part, dragons generally consider themselves above the affairs of mortals, though the common people don’t realize this.

This doesn’t mean that they’re above politics. They have their own extremely complex machinations they play out amongst themselves. Being immortal, dragon politics are long-range and labyrinthian. Sometimes, even the Great Houses become entangled in them, but that’s more incidental than by design; even then the focus remains on the others of their own kind. Dragon politics can also be extremely deadly–they may be immortal, but they’re not unkillable.

Having a dragon visit your hearth is considered a great blessing, unless she becomes offended or angered (usually as the result of poor hospitality). In that case, they can leave behind a terrible curse, if they so choose. Dragons are the original sorcerers and those with magical ability usually have at least a drop or two of dragon blood in their veins. Being shapeshifters, dragons may (and often do) mate with whatever species strikes their fancy. Thus, it is possible to find dragon blood in all the known races of Guang Keshar.

Those known to have dragon blood are often treated as semi-divine, or at least having been “touched” by divinity.

It’s Finally Here

February 23, 2010 · Posted in Musings · Comment

After months of work, the Guang Keshar free adventure is finally available.

A Taste of Intrigue is a closed-room character-driven scenario designed to be used with any game system. It’s a gentle introduction to the world of Guang Keshar. It uses six pre-generated characters, which are fully detailed in the module, complete with goals and their feelings about the other PCs in the game. No character is an outsider — everyone knows everyone else and has a history with them, which is detailed in the character. All you need to do is add stats from your favorite game system.

To get this adventure, all you have to do is sign up for the Guang Keshar Development Newsletter in the “Newsletter Sign-Up” box to the right of this post. The first issue will include a link to where you can download the adventure for free. It’s our way of saying “Thanks” to all of you for your support. Future newsletters will contain stats for the adventure from various fantasy role-playing systems, as well as corrections, updates, and information about Guang Keshar itself.

Please enjoy this adventure and feel free to send comments, critiques, and/or suggestions to improve it. You can do that by adding comments to this (or any other) post here on the website, or you can use the contact form to email us directly.

Product Update and Campaign Setting Survey

January 15, 2010 · Posted in Musings · Comment

Well, I’ve nearly finished with the freebie adventure I’m giving away when you sign up for the Guang Keshar Development Newsletter. It’s something a little different from most fantasy rpg adventures/modules. If you enjoy games like Amber Diceless and Vampire: the Masquerade and would like to a play a more politically focused game set in a high fantasy world, you’ll love this adventure. If you’ve never tried the above games, you’re in for a treat.

It’s a completely self-contained adventure with pre-generated characters.  While it’s set in Guang Keshar’s House Kukuri, you don’t need to know anything about the world to play it. Just apply your favorite game system’s stats to the characters and you’re off and running. Everything you need to know about the characters and the world is included in the adventure. It’s a little “thank you” for allowing me to send you stuff about this new world I’m creating and the products that will be available for sale about it. Your address are safe with me — I won’t share your information with anyone else. Ever. I promise.

Also, you can help us build Guang Keshar’s setting and products by taking a few minutes to answer these five questions. When was the last time you had a say in how a company creates the products you use? As survey’s go, it’s short, it may be fun, and it definitely won’t hurt. ;)

I’ll publish the results of the survey here.
