I agree, there are some problems with the mechanics systems. I've usually run series of one-shots, so the advancement problems have never been an issue in my games. Many people have problems with the combat system; over the years, I've seen a number of alternative combat mechanics.

I have to admit, I generally base my game preferences on setting rather than mechanics.

I got my hands on a friend's copy of In Nomine back in the day... which I'd managed to keep ahold of it, was a real gem that one. I ran about a year's worth of games, but got frustrated that the system fell apart at the high levels. If I got ahold of the game again I'd try to work out some of the bugs in the advancement system to fix that.

I only played IN through email/PbP and the system never thrilled me, the concept however was quite cool. Still something I would like to play a bit more to try and get a real feel for the way the system and setting work.
